Atletico Madrid Pursues Tijjani Reijnders from Manchester City for Midfield Boost

Atletico Madrid is actively seeking to enhance their midfield this summer, with Sporting Director Mateu Alemany potentially making multiple acquisitions. The club has already secured an agreement for Wolves midfielder Joao Gomes. Last season saw the arrivals of Alex Baena and Johnny Cardoso at the Metropolitano, but injuries hampered their contributions. Captain Koke Resurreccion played a vital role, while Pablo Barrios also faced fitness challenges. In January, Obed Vargas and Rodrigo Mendoza joined the squad, primarily viewed as future prospects. Currently, Atletico Madrid has six players lined up for midfield roles, although Vargas and Mendoza could be candidates for loan moves this summer. In their pursuit of midfield reinforcements, Atletico Madrid has opened discussions with Manchester City regarding Dutch midfielder Tijjani Reijnders. According to Matteo Moretto on RadioMarca, the talks are part of Atletico's strategy to bolster their midfield options. With Enzo Maresca set to arrive at the Etihad, Reijnders may be among those permitted to leave. Reijnders joined Manchester City for €54.9m after a standout tenure at AC Milan, where he tallied seven goals and eight assists in 47 appearances. Despite only starting about half of those matches, his midfield contributions were notable, averaging nearly a goal contribution every two games.
