Cameron Norrie Faces Injury Setback but Aims for Wimbledon Comeback

British tennis star Cameron Norrie prepares for a scan in London due to a rib injury that forced him to withdraw from the French Open. Despite this setback, he remains hopeful about his chances at Wimbledon. Norrie, who is the British number one, retired mid-match during his opening round at Roland Garros—a rare occurrence in his career. The 30-year-old had been struggling with an inflamed joint in his rib prior to the tournament and eventually pulled out after 78 minutes, trailing Adolfo Daniel Vallejo 7-6 (7) 2-0. In his own words, Norrie expressed the frustration of not being able to perform: "It’s a tough feeling right now. I thought I would be ready but it was obviously too soon." He acknowledged that mental fatigue played a role in his performance, saying, "I was just a little bit mentally tired... I know I’m playing so well, so that was even more frustrating." Norrie, seeded 20th in Paris, had a favorable draw and reached the fourth round last year. However, discomfort grew during the match, especially after leading 5-1 in the first set tie-break but failing to capitalize on four set points. With the grass season approaching, Norrie is cautious about risking a longer absence. He will undergo injury checks on Wednesday and admitted he may miss the ATP event in the Netherlands starting June 8. However, he is optimistic about competing in the HSBC Championships at Queen’s Club the following week. "That will be my goal... I can get a chance to rest," he concluded, looking forward to recharging before Wimbledon.
