Tristan Stubbs Shines with 69 as Hampshire Hawks Triumph Over Essex in T20 Blast

Tristan Stubbs delivered a sensational performance, scoring an unbeaten 69 runs in just 42 balls, leading Hampshire Hawks to their first win in the T20 Blast men's competition this summer against Essex Eagles. This victory came less than 24 hours after Stubbs arrived from the IPL, where he had an underwhelming stint with the Delhi Capitals. Hampshire set a challenging target of 200 runs, supported by solid partnerships, including a 64-run partnership with Joe Weatherley and an 84-run partnership with fellow overseas player Hilton Cartwright. The Eagles struggled to chase down the target, finishing at 170-7, 30 runs short of the required score. Scott Currie made a significant impact with the ball, achieving personal best figures of 4-18, ensuring that last year’s runners-up, Hampshire, secured their fifth consecutive home T20 win over Essex. The innings of Hampshire showcased two contrasting phases: A challenging start where runs were hard to come by. An explosive finish where they scored 70 runs in the final four overs. James Vince and opening partner Toby Albert got off to a decent start, but the innings gained momentum when Weatherley and Stubbs steadied the ship. As the innings progressed, Stubbs launched a series of sixes, particularly targeting Luc Benkenstein and Wiaan Mulder, propelling Hampshire to their total, which had appeared unlikely at 80-3 midway through the innings.
