Bath emerged as the biggest spenders in the Premiership Rugby during their treble-winning season of 2024-25, investing approximately £8.5m in their squad, according to a recent report by Prem Rugby. This amount includes £6.4m allocated under the salary cap limit, along with deductions for credits and the inclusion of their excluded player, Finn Russell, the Scotland fly-half. Several clubs, including Saracens, Harlequins, Sale, and Leicester, also approached the salary cap limit, which returned to £6.4m last season after three years at £5m. Key financial highlights include: Average salary in the competition: £191,000 per year. Introduction of a salary floor of £5.4m per season to maintain competitiveness among clubs starting next season. Salary cap remains at £6.4m, with potential extensions to £7.8m through various credits. The fly-half position continues to command the highest salaries at £260,000, while the wing position sees the lowest at £132,000. Noteworthy excluded players include George Ford from Sale, Marcus Smith at Harlequins, and Maro Itoje of Saracens, with their average salaries reaching £533,000. At the other end of the spectrum, Newcastle, the bottom club, recorded the least expenditure, failing to surpass £4m overall. Chief executive Simon Massie-Taylor emphasized the effectiveness of the salary cap in promoting competition, highlighting the achievement of six different winners in six years. In addition to winning the league title for the first time since 1996, Bath also secured the Premiership Rugby Cup and the European Challenge Cup last year.
